TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Primary students have commenced the school with a high level of enthusiasm and have demonstrated a positive approach to their academic studies. All teachers of Sirius College team will work together to make the teaching learning process a rewarding experience for our students.

Teachers and parents play an important role in shaping the future of the children. We need to support each other in achieving the common goal, which is to provide a good education to children. We must inculcate good study habits and organisational skills in children at an early stage to attain success.

Homework is an important component of a child’s education at Sirius College. It extends classroom learning while teaching them self- discipline and organisational skills. It fosters good study habits and provides an opportunity for students to be responsible for their own learning. In addition, it serves as a valuable means of communication between home and school about a child’s progress. We expect that all children complete their weekly homework and parents must sign when all assigned tasks have been completed. Please ensure that they finish the online homework assigned on Mathletics and Reading Eggs as well.

We expect that all children will experience at least fifteen to twenty minutes of uninterrupted reading at home each day. The amount of time given will depend on age and the ability levels of students. We ask that parents read to and with their children, especially in primary school.

This year, Sirius College will run a Learning Club Program to help students in need. Teachers will run this program every Monday after school from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The school will also provide transport to students after the completion of the session. The notes have been given to some students who need that extra help. Please complete these forms and return them to school as soon as possible.

‘Save the Children’ is one of Australia's largest aid and development agencies dedicated to helping children. ‘Save the Children’ organisation will run a special program for junior years to improve their literacy and numeracy skills here at Sirius College. These sessions will run every Monday after school from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. If your child has received a form for this program, please complete it and return it to their teacher/office.

I look forward to a wonderful academic year with your ongoing help and support.

Regards,

Mrs. Amninder Malhi
